About Southern Sun Events

Based in Asheville, North Carolina and serving the Southeast, Southern Sun Events is woman and immigrant owned. We are on a mission to redefine how we celebrate life’s events using sustainable planning methods that reduce our impact on the planet.

We celebrate diversity and stand for environmental, racial, and social justice. We donate 5% of our profits to Florida Wildlife Corridor and CoThinkk.

OWNER + EVENT DESIGNER

Southern Sun Events came to fruition after much reflection on my time planning for the Houston social scene. I’d spent countless post midnight hours dumping bag upon bag of trash wishing I had the tools and resources to mitigate just a fraction of the waste generated. I’d flower bomb offices with leftover arrangements, put out leftover food for staff working around the clock, and reused or donated leftover decor items but it never felt like enough.

During my decade in nonprofit special events I’ve served as special events coordinator for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and as events manager for The North Carolina Arboretum and The Collider. My planning methods took a huge shift when I transitioned from lavish no limits Houston events to expanding the green weddings program at The North Carolina Arboretum. From there, I joined the team at The Collider, an incubator space for start ups utilizing climate data to address the challenges of climate change where I produced sustainable, community driven events and conferences.

My goal is to bring balance to the way we gather. To utilize creative methods and innovative ideas to lighten the load of waste created by our gatherings. To celebrate in harmony with the earth that sustains us. There’s no reason we shouldn’t do our part to sustain it.
